22 - Abraham told to sacrifice Isaac, Nahor's family
I. Abraham told to sacrifice Isaac
A. God did tempt Abraham
1. God called
2. Abraham said, "Behold here I am"
3. God said, "Take now thy son
a. Thine only son Isaac
b. Whom thou lovest and
c. Get thee into the land of Moriah and
d. Offer him there for a burnt offering
e. Upon one of the mountains
f. Which I will tell thee of"
B. Abraham rose up early in the morning
1. Saddled his ass
2. Took two young men
3. Isaac his son
4. Claved the wood for the burnt offering
5. Went to the place which God had told him
C. On the third day
1. Abraham saw the place
2. Abraham said unto his young men
a. Abide ye here with the ass
b. I and the lad will go yonder and worship
c. Come again to you
3. Abraham took:
a. the wood of the burnt offering (laid it upon Isaac)
b. the fire in his hand
c. a knife
4. They went together
5. Isaac said
a. Behold the fire and wood
b. but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?
6. Abraham said God would provide Himself an offering
D. They came to the place which God had told him of
1. Abraham built an altar
2. Laid the wood in order on it
3. Bound Isaac
4. Laid him on the altar on the wood
5. Abraham stretched forth his hand
a. Took the knife
b. To slay his son
6. The Angel of the Lord called unto him
a. Abraham, Abraham
b. He answered, "Here am I"
7. The Angel said
a. Lay not thy hand upon the lad
b. Neither do thou anything unto him
c. Now I know
1) That thou fearest God
2) Thou hast not withheld thy son
3) thine only son from me
8. Abraham lifted up his eyes
a. Beheld a ram
1) caught in a thicket
2) by his horns
b. He took the ram
1) offered it for an offering
2) instead of his son
9. Abraham called the name of this place
a. Jehovah-jireh
b. It is said to this day
c. In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen
10. The Angel of the Lord called the second time
a. By myself have I sworn
b. Because thou hast done this thing
c. Hast not withheld thy son
d. Thy only son
11. The Angel's blessing
a. I will bless thee
b. I will multiply thy seed
1) As the stars of the heaven
2) As the sand of the seashore
c. Thy seed shall possess the gates of his enemies
d. In thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed
e. Because thou hast obeyed
12. Abraham returned to the young men
a. They went together to Beer-sheba
b. Abraham dwelt in Beer-sheba
II. Nahor's family
A. After these things Abraham was told
1. Milcah bore eight sons to Nahor his brother
a. Huz the firstborn
b. Buz his brother
c. Kemuel the father of Aram
d. Chesed, Hazo, Padash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel
e. Bethuel beget Rebekah
2. Reumah, Nahor's concubine, bore him 4 children
