I. Lot and the angels
A. The two angels
1. They arrive at Sodom at even
a. Lot meets them
b. Bows toward the ground
2. Lot invites them to his house
a. Tarry all night
b. Wash your feet
c. They said nay, we will abide in the street
d. He presses them and they turned in
e. He made them a feast with unleaven bread
3. Before they lay down
a. The men of the city compassed the house
b. Old and young
c. All the people from every quarter
4. They called Lot
a. Where are the men?
b. Bring them out that we may know them
5. Lot went out and shut the door
a. He asked them to not do so wickedly
b. He offered them his 2 daughters who had never known man
1) do to them as is good in your eyes
2) only to these men do nothing
3) they came under the shadow of my roof
6. They answer
a. Stand back
b. This fellow came in to sojourn
c. he will needs be a judge
d. now will we deal worse with thee than them
e. they pressed sore on Lot and came near to break the door
B. The men pulled lot into the house and shut the door
1. They smote the men who were at the door with blindness
2. both great and small
3. they wearied themselves to find the door
C. They told Lot
1. Hast thou here any besides?
a. son-in-law, sons, daughters and whatsoever
b. bring them out of this place
2. We will destroy this place
a. the cry of them is waxed great before the face of the Lord
b. The Lord has sent us to destroy it
D. Lot went out
1. Lot spake to his son-in-laws
a. Up get you out; for the Lord will destroy this city
b. He seemed as one who mocked to his son-in-laws
E. When the morning arose
1. The angels hastened Lot
2. Arise and take thy wife and thy two daughters which are here
3. Lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of this city
F. Lot lingered
1. The men laid hold upon his hand
2. Also his wife's hand and his daughters hand
a. The Lord being merciful
b. they brought him forth and set him without the city
3. He was told
a. escape for thy life
b. look not behind thee
c. Neither stay thou in all the plain
d. Escape to the mountain
e. Lest thou be consumed
G. Lot says," Oh not so, my Lord"
1. He acknowledges that
a. grace
b. mercy
c. was shown him in saving his life
2. He says he can not escape to the mountain
a. lest some evil take me
b. I die
3. He asks to go to the little city near and his soul shall live
a. Lot was told that was accepted
b. this city would not be overthrown
c. Lot was told to haste there
1) I can do nothing till thou come thither
2) the name of the city was called Zoar
II. The destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
A. Fire and brimstone rained from the Lord out of Heaven
1. He overthrew
a. cities
b. all the plain
c. all the inhabitants
d. that which grew upon the ground
2. Lots wife looked back and became a pillar of salt
B. Abraham
1. Gat up early in the morning
a. the place where he stood before the Lord
b. He looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah
1) toward all the land of the plain
2) the smoke of the country went up as smoke of a furnace
2. When God destroyed the cities of the plain
a. God remembered Abraham
b. God sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow
III. Lot and his daughters
A. Lot went up out of Zoar
1. dwelt in the mountain
2. with his two daughters
3. he feared to dwell in Zoar
4. He dwelt in a cave
B. The firstborn said to the younger
1. Our father is old
2. There is not a man in the earth
a. to come into us
b. after the manner of all the earth
c. let us make our father
1) drink wine
2) we will lie with him
3) we may preserve the seed of our father
C. The daughters actions
1. They made their father drink wine
2. The firstborn went in and lay with her father
3. He perceived not
a. when she lay down
b. when she arose
4. On the morrow
a. the younger arose and lay with Lot
b. He know not
D. Both daughter were with child by their father
1. The firstborn had a son named Moab. He was the father of the Moabites unto this day
2. The younger had a son named Benammi. He was the father of Ammon unto this day
