14 - Abram rescues Lot and
meets Melchizedek.
I. The four kings rebel against the five - v.1-3
A. They were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the Salt Sea - v.3
B. They had served 12 years and rebelled in the 13th - v.4
II. The Battle - v.4-16
A. In the 14th year they had a battle - v.5-10
1. The vale of Siddim was full of pits of slime - v.10
2. The kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fell in these - v.10
3. The others fled to the mountains - v.10
B. The result of the battle - v.11-16
1. They took all the goods and victuals of Sodom and Gomorrah and went their way -
v.11
2. They took Lot and his goods also - v.12
3. One escaped and told Abram the Hebrew, Mamre the Amorite and two others - v.13
4. Abram armed 318 trained servants born in his house - v.14
5. He pursed them to Dan - v.14
6. He divided his servants and smote them at night and then pursued them to Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus -
v.15
7. He brought back Lot, his goods and women and the people - v.16
III. Melchizedek Blesses Abram - v.17-24
A. The king of Sodom met Abram upon his return at the valley of Shaveh, which is the king's dale -
v.17
1. Melchizedek king of Salem and priest of the most high God also met him - v.18
2. He brought forth bread and wine - v.18
3. He blessed Abram - v.19
4. Abram gave him tithes of all - v.20
B. The king of Sodom - v.21-24
1. Said give me the persons and keep the goods to thyself - v.21
2. Abram said no, he had lifted his hand to the Lord - v.22-23
3. He would take nothing so that the king could not say he had made Abram rich -
v.23
4. Abram only asked the portion the young men had eaten and the portion of those who had gone with him: Aner, Eshcol, Mamre -
