11 - The Tower and Abram's Family Line
I. Construction of the tower - v.1-3
A. One language and one speech.
B. Journeyed from the East.
C. On the plain of Shinar.
D. Made with bricks for stone and slime for mortar.
II. Rebellion at the tower - v.4-9
A. Make a tower whose top is in the heavens.
1. Let us make us a name.
2. Lest we be scattered.
B. Examination by God.
1. The people are one with one language.
2. This they begin to do.
3. Nothing will be restrained which they imagined.
C. Judgment.
1. Let us go down.
2. Confound their language that they may not understand one another.
3. They were scattered over the face of the earth.
4. They left off building the tower.
5. Called Babel because the Lord confounded their language.
III. The family of Shem - v.10-32
A. Shem was 100 when Arphaxad was born two years after the flood .
1. Shem lived 500 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
B. Salah was born 35 years later to Arphaxad.
1. Arphaxad lived 403 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
C. Eber was born 30 years later to Salah.
1. Salah lived 403 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
D. Peleg was born 34 years later to Eber.
1. Eber lived 430 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
E. Reu was born 30 years later to Peleg.
1. Peleg lived 209 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
F. Serug was born 32 years later to Reu.
1. Reu lived 207 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
G. Nahor was born 30 years later to Serug.
1. Serug lived 200 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
H. Terah was born 30 years later to Nahor.
1. Nahor lived 119 years after the birth and begat sons and daughters.
I. Abram, Nahor and Haran were born 70 years later to Terah.
1. Terah lived 205 years and died in Haran.
2. Sarai the daughter of Terah married Abram and was barren.
3. Nahor married Milcah, Haran's daughter.
4. Haran had 2 daughters named Milcah and Iscah and one son named Lot.
5. Haran died in Ur before his father.
J. Journey to Canaan.
1. Terah took Abram, Lot, and Sarai when they left Ur to go to Canaan.
2. They came to Haran and dwelt there.
