Colossians 1:24-29

Introduction:

1. In the days of the prophet Jeremiah, Judah was admonished to return to the ancient paths Jeremiah 6:16.

2. The ancient paths for the Jews were found in the Law of Moses.

3. Our ancient paths is the Mind of Christ I Corinthians 2:16.

4. Jesus is at the heart of the Father’s Plan A. This morning I discussed His Plan B.

Body:

I. Jesus Is the Key to Understanding God.

1. The Old Testament pointed to Him John 5:39-47; Luke 24:44-45.

2. He shows us the Father John 14:8-9.

3. The New Testament is the revelation of His Mind I Corinthians 2:16.

4. The Father’s revelation of the Son is a revelation of Himself I Corinthians 2:10-16.

II. Jesus Is the Key to Understanding Salvation:

1. He is the very reason there is salvation Romans 3:21-26.

2. He shows us how to understand obedience.

a. That acceptable obedience is neither out of pride nor from hypocrisy Matthew 23:1-36.

b. That loving, faithful obedience establishes to Whom we belong John 14:15, 23-24; 8:32

3. He is the assurance of salvation for all the faithful Revelation 1:18; 2:10; John 11:25-26.

III. Jesus Is the Key to Living the Christian Life:

1. He is the standard for all God wants us to be Romans 8:29.

2. He is to replace our self-will by living in us Matthew 10:39; Galatians 2:20.

3. He comes into our hearts through loving obedience to the truth John 14:23.

IV. Jesus Is the Key to Successful Relationships:

1. He is the only way to have a relationship with the Father John 14:6; I John 1:1-3, 7.

2. He teaches the way of acceptable personal relationships Matthew 7:12; Ephesians 5:21-6:9.

3. He practiced what He preached John 13:34-35; 17:21-23.

Conclusion:

1. We simply must get serious about a return to Jesus and an insistence that He be at the heart of all things the Father has entrusted to the church.

2. He is the heart of the Father’s Plan A.
