Introduction:
1. Have you ever stopped to think that Jesus did not have a plan B if His plan A
were rejected?
2. Simon Peter understood the implications of this when he told Jesus that there
was nowhere else to go for eternal life
John 6:60-69.
3. Consider Jesus’ rejection of Peter’s alternative suggestion in
Matthew
16:21-24; any other plan would have been from Satan!
Body:
I. There Is No Plan B for Salvation:
A. John 8:24
"Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you
do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
B. John 14:6
"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one
comes to the Father except through Me.'"
C. Mark 16:15-16
"And He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the
gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he
who does not believe will be condemned.'"
D. Colossians 1:21-23
"And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind
by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through
death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight—
if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved
away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every
creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister."
II. There Is No Plan B for the Church:
A. Matthew 16:18
"And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I
will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it."
B. Ephesians 1:22-23
"And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be
head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who
fills all in all."
C. Ephesians 4:4
"There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your
calling"
III. There Is No Plan B for Worship:
A. John 4:24
"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and
Truth"
B. Colossians 3:16
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
C. I Corinthians 11:23-26
"For I received from the Lord that which I also
delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed
took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, 'Take, eat; this
is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.' In
the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new
covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.' For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the
Lord’s death till He comes."
IV. There Is No Plan B for Conduct Among Brethren:
A. Ephesians 4:29
"Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is
good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers."
B. Philippians 2:1-5
"Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any
comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,
fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord,
of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you
look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus"
C. Titus 3:10-11
"Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,
knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned."
V. There Is No Plan B for Church Growth:
A. I Peter 2:9
"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own
special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of
darkness into His marvelous light"
B. I Peter 3:15
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense
to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and
fear"
C. Ephesians 4:11-16
"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets,
some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the
saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till
we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to
a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that
we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every
wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful
plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him
who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by
what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every
part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in
love."
Conclusion:
1. As Jesus did not compromise, so we must not compromise.
3. In every aspect of Christianity, we must be about our Father’s business.
