I. JESUS IN JUDEA (vs.1, 2)

 

Event:

Jesus leaves Judea for Galilee (v.1)

 

Reason:

The Pharisees heard He had made and baptized more disciples than John

 

II. JESUS IN SAMARIA (vs.4-42)

 

Event:

Jesus stops at a well (v.6)

 

Those Present:

Jesus, His disciples, woman (vs.6, 7, 27)

 

Time:

Sixth hour (v.6)

 

Location:

Sychar of Samaria near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph (v.5)

 

Reason: 

Jesus was weary from His journey (v.6)

 

Event: 

Woman comes to the well to draw water (v.7)

 

Request: 

Jesus ask her to give Him a drink of water (v.7)

 

Reason: 

His disciples had gone into the city to buy food (v.8)

 

Reaction: 

She asked Him how is it that He as a Jew asked her a Samaritan woman as the Jews had no dealing with the Samaritans (v.9)
Jesus said if she knew the gift of God and who spoke to her she would have asked him and He would have given her living water (v.10)
She asked where do you get the water; was He greater than Jacob (vs.11,12)
Jesus told her those who drink of this water will thirst but those who drink of the water He gives will never thirst again (vs.13,14)
She said give me to drink (v.15)
Jesus told her go call her husband and she said she had none (vs.16,17)
Jesus said she well said but that she had 5 in the past (v.18)
She said I perceive that you are a Prophet (v.19)
She said the Samaritans worshiped on this mountain but you say in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship (v.20)
Jesus said the hour cometh when worship would neither be in the mountain or in Jerusalem (v.21)
The Samaritans did not know what they worshiped but the Jews did (v.22)
Worship was to be in spirit and truth and the Father seeks such (v.23)
God is a spirit and only will accept worship in spirit and truth (v.24)
She said I know the Messias cometh (v.25)
Jesus said I that speak to you am He (v.26)
Jesus' disciples return and marvel that He was speaking to a woman (v.27)
She left her water pot and went into the city and said to the men come see a man which told me all things that I ever did: is this not the Christ (v.28,29)
They went out to Him (v.30)
The disciples prayed Him to eat but He refused saying," I have meat to eat that ye know not of" (v.31-33)
Jesus teaches them about the fields being white unto harvest (v.35)
  He that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together (v.36)
Many Samaritans believed because of the woman (v.39)
They wanted Him to tarry with them and He did for two days (v.40)
Many more believed because of His own Word (v.41)
They said they knew this indeed was the Christ (v.42)

 

III. JESUS IN GALILEE

 

Time:

After two days (v.43)

 

Event:

Went into Galilee (v.43)

Jesus said "a prophet hath no honor in his own country" (v.44)

The Galileans received Him because of what they had seen at Jerusalem (v.45)

 

Event:

Jesus goes to Cana (v.46)

A nobleman came to Him whose son was sick and at the point of death (v.46,47)
Jesus said, " except ye see signs and wonders ye will not believe" (v.48)
Jesus said, "go thy way thy son liveth and the man believed" (v.49,50)
The nobleman's servants met him and told him his son liveth (v.51)
When the nobleman found out the hour was the same when Jesus told him to go and when his son's fever left, he believed (v.51-53)
This was the second miracle when He was come out of Judea into Galilee (v.54)
