II Corinthians 13:5

Introduction.

1. With the coming of the New Year many people make resolutions concerning their lives.

2.Today let us notice some thoughts about resolutions.

Body.

I. I TAKES SELF EXAMINATION.

A. Examine yourselves - II Corinthians 13:5

B. Must be by the correct standard.

1. Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment - John 7:24

2. The Scriptures are the standard.

a. Jesus' words will judge - John 12:48

b. Our works will judge - Revelation 20:12

c. The Gospel will judge - Romans 2:16

C. We must realize where we have fallen short or what we have done that is good.

II. SOME IMPROVEMENTS WE ALL NEED.

A. Greater Bible knowledge.

1. Stronger faith.

a. Listen to God's Word - Romans 10:17

b. The Apostles example - Luke 17:5

2. Better attitude.

a. Do I demonstrate brotherly love.

(1) Love one another - John 13:34-35

(2) Brotherly love - Hebrews 13:1-3

b. Appreciate the accomplishments of others.

(1) Do not envy - I Corinthians 13:4

(2) All together - I Corinthians 12:26

B. Pray more.

1. Without ceasing - 1 Thessalonians 5:17

2. Not of what is not interrupted, but of that which is constantly recurring - Vines

C. Give more.

1. Money.

a. Freely willing - II Corinthians 8:1-7

b. Cheerfully - II Corinthians 9:6-7

2. Time.

D. Attend every service - Acts 2:42

E. Visiting.

1. The sick - James 1:27

2. Wayward members.

a. Consider one another - Hebrews 10:24

b. Turn back the wandering brother - James 5:19-20

F. Speaking the word of God.

1. Teaching them - Matthew 28:19-20, 2 Timothy 2:2

2. Choose one person to convert this year.

a. Pray for him.

b. Give material.

c. Invite to services.

G. Put on the Christian graces.

1. Fruit of the Spirit - Galatians 5:22-25

2. Give diligence - II Peter 1:3-11

Conclusion.

1. Let us resolve to do better this year than last in our service for the King and to truly put Christ first in our lives.

2. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness - Matthew 6:33
