I Want To Go To Heaven - Philippians 3:20-21

Introduction:

1. Paul proclaims to the Philippians that they are not citizens of earth but of heaven.

2. They will be equipped to be citizens of that city.

3. The Savior is coming with the power to transform.

4. Words such as these have excited us for 2000 years. They make us long for our home.

5. They make us “press toward the mark.” (v. 14)

6. They make us want others to go too. II Corinthians 5:11

Body:

I. HEAVEN IS MY HOPE.

1. Is it really there? Jesus says it is. Matthew 5:12

2. What would you expect of a man that:

A. Claimed to know things no other man knew? Acts 1:24

B. Raised the dead?  John 11:33-34

C. Healed the sick? Matthew 14:14

D. Calmed the seas? Mark 4:39

E. Walked on water? Matthew 14:25

F. Cast out demons? Mark 5

G. Calmed humanities deepest fears? John 7:44

H. Rose from the dead? Matthew 28:6

3. Is it really offered?

A. I Peter 1:3-4

B. Matthew 10:32

C. Matthew 5:12

II. HEAVEN IS MY HAVEN.

1. A place of refuge or rest, a sanctuary.

2. This life is full of trouble. Job 14:1

3. Simply by the way this world operates we can expect pain and suffering. Laws of gravity, motion, etc.

4. Suffering is compounded by sin in the world.

A. We recall the madness of Hitler’s Germany and Imperial Japan.

B. We remember the purges of the Soviets and Communist Chinese.

C. We know of the millions of our youth who have been sacrificed on the altar of convenience in their mother’s womb.

D. Imprinted on our mind is the scene of terror from the sky.

E. We are vulnerable to a madman with a weapon.

F. We feel the onset of age and disease.

G. We suffer the heartache of death and betrayal in the home.

5. Heaven is a haven free from trouble. Revelation 21:3-4, 8

6. This haven is a place of rest. Revelation 14:11-13. Make sure there are labors to rest from.

III. HEAVEN IS MY HOME.

1. We are strangers (foreigners) here. I Peter 2:11. Obey its laws, be loyal to the King. Philippians 3:20.

2. Paul: I want to go home, but it’s better for you if I stay. Philippians 1:21-26.

3. There is a place prepared. John 14:2.

4. It’s where my treasure is. Matthew 6:19-21.

5. It’s where my Father is. Revelation 21:5-7.

Conclusion:

1. To go home you must be part of the family. To be part of the family you must be born into it. Ye must be born again. John 3:3-5
 

2. To be part of the family your sins must be washed away.
