What is the Baptism
of the Holy Spirit?
Acts 2:14-21
Introduction:
1. It is a very common doctrine in the religious world.
2. It is a question that I am asked by many even among us.
Body:
I. Is it really promised?
1. Mixed audience.
2. Some would be baptized with fire (Hell).
3. Some would be baptized with Holy Spirit.
C. Yes, by Jesus.
Acts 1:5
II. Who did the baptizing with the Holy Spirit?
A. Jesus
III. Who received it?
3. Purpose.
4. Effect.
b. Performed miracles (Acts 3:1-9).
IV. How did it to happen?
A. Directly from heaven.
1. On the Apostles.
Acts 2:2
B. Not given by man in the Bible.
V. Is it for today?
A. No, the Holy Spirit baptism ended by A.D. 61.
B. How do I know that?
1. In A.D. 33, there were 2 baptisms at Pentecost.
a. Holy Spirit baptism (Acts 2:1-4). A promise.
2. In A.D. 41, there were 2 baptisms at the house of Cornelius.
a. Holy Spirit baptism
Acts 10:44
b. Water baptism.
Acts 10:47-48 A command.
3. But in A.D. 61, there was only 1 baptism
Ephesians 4:4-6
a. Cannot be Holy Spirit baptism.
(1) Holy Spirit baptism was a promise.
(2) Holy Spirit baptism was to be administered by Jesus.
b. Can only be water baptism.
(2) Water baptism was to last till the end of the world

(3) Water baptism was a command for all sinners.
Conclusion:
I. As we can see, Holy Spirit Baptism is not a part of God's plan for man today. We have God's revealed and confirmed word.
II. The baptism we need to be concerned with is water baptism.
