Matthew 12:43-45

Introduction:

I. There's nothing like a homecoming!

A. I don't care how much you like getting away; it's always good to come back home.

B. The bad news is Satan, also, enjoys coming back home.

II. In Matthew 12:22 (Luke 11:14), a demon-possessed man is brought to Jesus.  There are four responses to this healing:

A. Amazed (23).

B. Reject (24).

C. Unconvinced (38).

D. Believe (Luke 11:27-28).

III. Jesus presents a parable to teach that there is no middle ground (Luke11:23-26). We must be filled with Christ and live Christ like to keep Satan away (Luke 11:33-36).

A. (Romans 15:14-16; Ephesians 3:19; Ephesians 5:18; Philippians 1:9-11; 4:8-9; Colossians 1:9-14).

B. Satan wants to come home.

C. Evil spirits don't possess people today.

Body:

I. SATAN LOVES AN EMPTY LIFE.

A. Our heart is a dwelling place for God (I Corinthians 6:19; Ephesians 3:17).

B. Our heart must be clean (Hebrews 10:22).

C. To stay clean our heart must be filled with goodness (II Peter 1:5-11).

II. SATAN NEVER GIVES UP.

A. He didn’t Jesus (Matthew 4:1-11; 16:23; Hebrews 4:15).

B. He will not with us either (James 1:13-14; Job 2:1).

III. SATAN CAN RETURN.

A. We can return to sin (Galatians 5:4; I Corinthians 10:12).

B. It will be worse.

1. Now (II Timothy 3:13).

2. Later (II Peter 2:20-22; Hebrews 6:4-6).

IV. BUT SATAN CAN BE STOPPED.

A. Resist (James 4:7).

B. Watch (Matthew 26:41).

C. Common (I Corinthians 10:13).

Conclusion:

I. Jesus came into the world to destroy the works of Satan (I John 3:8).

II. Jesus came into the world that we could overcome Satan (Ephesians 6:12).

III. Who's at home in our lives? (Revelation 3:20; John 14:23 ).

IV. Invitation.
