Philippians 1:19-24

Introduction:

1. Christianity is meant to be a lifestyle, not just something we do.

2. Christ provides our every need.

3. The book of Philippians tells us of four things that Christ provided.

Body:

I Christ Provides The Purpose Of Life

A. Philippians 1:21 "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain"

B. The purpose of Paul’s existence was to serve Christ.

C. Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."

D. Ecclesiastes 1:13 "And I set my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all that is done under heaven"

E. For what are you living?

II Christ Provides The Pattern For Life

A. Philippians 2:5 "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus"

B. Jesus not only died for us, but he lived for us.

C. 1 Peter 2:21 "For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps"

D. Who is your pattern for life?

E. If Christ is your pattern, you will have:

1. Forgiveness (Matthew 18:35). “So My heavenly Father also will do to you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses.”

2. Compassion (Romans 12:15). Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

3. Self Control (2 Peter 1:6). to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,

4. Love for the lost (Luke 19:10). for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

5. Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

III Christ Provides The Prize Of Life

A. Philippians 3:14 "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

B. The prize of eternal life is found in Christ.

C. John 14:1-4 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

D. Romans 6:4 "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."

E. Galatians 3:27 "For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ."

F. For what prize are you living?

G. Matthew 16:26 "For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?"

IV Christ Provides The Power For Life

A. Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

B. John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."

C. Solomon tried to live a successful life without God, but couldn’t.

D. Ephesians 2:8 "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God"

Conclusion:

1. If we desire to find lasting happiness and fulfillment in life, we must seek for it in Christ.

2. For Christ provides the purpose, pattern, prize, and power to live life with meaning.
