We are living in an age in which most people are indifferent to the idea of
immodesty. Many people do not give a second thought to leaving their body
exposed to the opposite sex. Some believe that in order to be in style, you must
be in various degrees of undress. Some have seared their conscious to the point
where they no longer feel that half-nakedness, and in some cases, even
total-nakedness is wrong.
Shorts, halter tops, sheer blouses, high-slit dresses, swimming suits, and
tee-shirts with crude words written across the front are accepted as normal
attire by society in general. There seems to be very few places that one can go,
where he is not exposed to immodest dress in one form or another. The bank,
restaurant and grocery store are no longer excepted from it, certainly most
sports activities are not! T.V. encourages it!

Christians are being tempted on every side to relent to the ways of the
world, and compromise their convictions. Some are yielding to the temptation,
and as a result, this type of worldliness is sometimes practiced by members of
the church. Those who thus yield are no longer engaged to oppose Satan and his
devices, but are actually aiding him in his efforts to corrupt the morals and
lives of those who are trying to live godly lives.
The Christian must be careful to select proper clothing. We cannot be Godly
people without respecting God’s will in the manner in which we select and wear
our clothing. "In like manner also, that women
adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with
braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array: but which becometh women
professing godliness with good works" (I Tim.
2:8-10).
|
Let us not invent excuses for dressing in an immodest way,
but instead
continue to abide in the word of God
by dressing modestly with shamefacedness
and sobriety.
